Housing/Accommodation units design 
 - floorplans, sections and elevations -

 The shape comes from old military settlements found in the Crisana Region that date back from the 10th - 11th century AD
 The green pitched roofs on the North connect the units to the ground in order to blend with the local landscape as well as offering new habitats for the present species of fauna and flora, while the Southern roofs are made of special solar panel tiles the produce enough energy to sustain the entire complex.

Day time area perspective
 
The open space concept comes as a response to the need for communication and quality time spent together that most people lack nowadays.

In general, the interior design style adopts an organic contemporary look, that combines the functionality and simplicity of present day design with a cozy atmosphere and the beauty and imperfections of natural materials in a sense of co-living and adaptability to nature from the vernacular architecture.

The bungalow is divided into two main areas, like a loft building, with daytime spaces downstairs, and the sleeping area upstairs. The front porch area, a reinterpretation of the traditional “prispa” is closed with sliding shading panels made of vertical reclaimed wood planks so the guests can choose the level of intimacy they want.

Kitchen area perspective

All furniture is custom made in local workshops mainly from reclaimed wood or from certified sources. 

The staircase has a triple function: stairs to get to the upstairs bedroom, shelving and racks for storage and hidden spot for an extra bed)

The whole complex is design in such a way that it can accommodate families and couples as well as small groups of friends and even team building sessions.
The housing units are suitable for up to 4-5 people (one queen sized bed upstairs, a modular sofa and a twin bed hidden under the staircase) 

The upstairs bedroom area is composed of a queen sized bed and a cargo net hammock floor for relaxation.

The big windows on the facade allows the guests to enjoy the beautiful landscape even from the bed.

Bathroom perspective

Natural finishes and just the essentials (sink, toilet and walk in shower) are all you need to embrace the sustainable holiday and ecotourism movement.

I opted for warm earthy tones, combined with local wood essences and natural fabrics such as jute, wool and hemp.

Location:  Luncsoara village (Bihor County)  -  rural area in the Western Hills of Romania

The project proposes an off-grid retreat or ecotourism complex, composed of unique housing units, arts and crafts workshops and common spaces, a mini farm and orchard for farm to table products. It is a reversible intervention that would not leave permanent marks on the landscape and natural environment. 

Besides the evident benefits of holidays in nature to human health and psychic, lately, ecotourism has been seen as one of the main ways to sustainably develop communities from disadvantaged rural areas in order to save them from urban migration and eventually abandonment, turning them into “ghost villages” that become a both social and environmental problem.

It also aims to bond local people and communities with the tourists, promoting good quality and sustainable forms of tourism, as well as becoming a model for future development projects in rural areas around the region and keeping alive the spirit of the place.

The concept is built around the relationship between human and nature, having the key words of sustainability, ecotourism, rural living, community, health and nature as a life and energy resource. 

This is why, the project is seen as an autonomous house that incorporates new nature friendly technologies with local and vernacular techniques.

The Lobby is thought as an open space with Reception desk, two Lounge areas and a cafe-bar that can be used by both the hotel's clients and people from the outside.

The concept, Poetry & Mistery, comes as a suggestion for the hotel's long and twisted history and secrets. The dark contemporary color scheme and the Art Deco and Mid-Century influenced details highlight the old-new contrast in a harmonious way.

One of the lounge areas, furnished with leather sofas, armchairs and tea tables in brass, with marble tops, and a wonderful green living wall that is meant to bring a natural touch and garden like feeling in the middle of the concrete jungle and to show the connection with the neighboring park, Cișmigiu Gardens.

 The concept, Poetry & Mistery, comes as a suggestion for the hotel's long and twisted history and secrets. The dark contemporary color scheme and the Art Deco and Mid-Century influenced details highlight the old-new contrast in a harmonious way.

The room, as well as the entire hotel, is for those who desire something else, a bit nonconventional when it comes to their hotel accommodation.

The room is designed as an open space with 2 main zones: day time area and night area, separated by a wall and theatre like curtains for a dramatic look.
The wood flooring from the main areas combines perfectly with the dark marble used for the double walk in shower and bathroom area.
Each room has a small balcony, facing either the street or the inside covered garden.

Self sufficient nZEB house concept

As a sustainable building, the house is design according to some rules: from the sun orientation of the rooms and windows, to the materials used and the energy production sourse.

The house was designed in a new neighbourhood in the suburban area of Bucharest, for a young couple that is always on the move, so when they spend time home, they want a warm, relaxing and comfortable atmosphere.

The two levels of the house are used to divide the day and night areas of the house.
The whole house adopts an open space concept. 
While the ground floor is composed of a kitchen and dinning area with storage and technic rooms, a back patio and terrace, a small bathroom, a living  room and an office area with folding doors that can create a separate room, the first floor hosts the master bedroom with dressing area and the master bathroom, as well as a quite big terrace.

The interior design style mixes natural materials, with dark contemporary color palette and green living walls.

The office area can be divided from the living room thanks to the folding glass doors and the expandable sofa can be easily turn into a bed for guests.

The bedroom is more dark and moody compared to the daytime areas.

Concept for Expo Dubai 2020 - Connecting minds, creating the future

Expo Dubai 2020's theme and purpose is to unite the world through culture, innovation and science for a better future and a more environmentally friendly society. 

From the beginning of the Modern Era, Romania's greatest asset were its people - 'the brains' full of ideas and creativity. We can see this through history, from Henri Coanda and Ana Aslan, to the nowadays students who develop robots, start-ups, art works etc. in order to improve the quality of our lives.

My design starts from the idea that everything is connected. 

This is why I chose to shape my pavilion like a circle, the symbol of unity, continuity and divinity. The four symmetrical access ways mark an intersection of paths and cultures that meet in the middle at the spiral staircase around the 'Wish Tree' - an artistical installation that contains our wishes and aspirations for a better future and where visitors can add their own. It is also a symbol of the Tree of Life and Axis Mundi.

The structure is made of CLT beams in a design that resembles and evokes the Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa Regia ruins playing with different heights of the vertical beams.

The only closed space is the conference room, but its walls are made of smart glass, which turns from transparent to opaque when used for a sense of privacy.

The photovoltaic rooftop produces the energy required for the functions of the pavilion and offers shading from the strong sun.

Designing the Heaven of Rock n Roll, Metal, Alternative and all subgenres of Rock lovers.

In the middle of the store, I designed an audio "box", a space equipped with various seating places and headphones for listening to favorite tracks or new gems, by blending the old school vinyl records and new technologies.

Materials as rough concrete, dark metal finishes, leather and wood in warm colors, are all used to give the moody atmosphere of rock's golden ages. 

The space comes as a socializing hub where fans of the same genres can meet and hang out. There are also merchandise and equipment areas where people can buy the latest gear or stuff with their favorite artists.

Lethe - a journey of tastes

Conversion: restaurant in an old factory in Bucharest
[2018]

Lethe is the name of one of the 5 rivers in Hades [the underworld] and spirits from Ancient Greek mythology. The river bordered Elysium, the paradise where only those worthy and heroes could go. Those who drank from it were supposed to forget everything from their past life and would be ready for rebirth. That is why, in Classic Greek, Lethe means oblivion, forgetfulness and concealment.

The dark mood is supposed to set the atmosphere according to the concept of the place and the restaurant's name.
Set in a new business area of the city, the restaurant is supposed to be a place of relief where people can forget about stress and struggles from day to day life while enjoying delicious food.
